SUMMARY ·

ÑAQUE is delighted to have this long-awaited stage management tool.

Cuaderno de Dirección Teatral is a practical manual, a ‘notebook’ that both directors and also wannabe directors may read, consult, or even use to let themselves go, thanks to its strength, its structure and how its contents are set out.

The book is structured in three big blocks. The first one focuses on the figure of the director, his training, roles and his basic tool: the director’s notebook. The second block is the longest and deals with the analysis of the work, its shape, its narrating system and its stylistic system. The latter sticks out to the preparation for artistic achievement. Agapito Martínez Paramio, member of ADE, provides a tool in which he combines his polyhedral training and proposes to enter the world of the classical director but also dramatist, global artist, etc. with a very pleasant, accessible language, ins-and-outs-free, focusing on the concept of Theatrical Management. This book is lavishly illustrated with schemas and graphs that support and clarify the displayed ideas.

It may be embarrassing to run a good theatrical show without drawing up a plan and a coherent composition of the elements that we have. For the director, as well as for the architect, it is confusing to construct a work without vividly believing in certain hypotheses, without formulating them and elucidating them under their self-analysis. The decision itself of capturing it scenically implies a sacrifice; you can’t long for all the options at the same time, you have to select, channel and arrange the available materials to elaborate the best possible work.
